About the Clay & Craft

Using the ancient nerikomi (mixed clay) technique, we combine white stoneware, grey clay, and natural earth-toned clays — layering, wedging, and hand-forming them together so the abstract pattern runs through the entire body of the clay. The result is a marbled, painterly look that is entirely natural, formed by the clay itself rather than surface decoration.

Each piece goes through a careful two-stage firing process: a bisque fire to harden the clay, followed by a glaze fire with a clear food-safe glaze that enhances the natural colour variation of the mixed clays. Because no two pieces of clay are ever blended identically, every piece in this set is a unique work of art.
