About the Clay & Craft

These pieces are hand-built from natural red terracotta clay — one of the oldest and most beloved clays in human history, used across the Middle East, Mediterranean, and North Africa for centuries. Terracotta is valued for its warm, earthy red tone, its connection to the earth, and its naturally rustic beauty.

Our terracotta is sourced as a high-quality, clean clay body that is then hand-formed using traditional slab-building techniques. Each plate, platter, and board is shaped by hand — pressed, smoothed, and finished individually, which is why the scalloped edges and surface textures are slightly different on every piece. This is not a defect but the mark of genuine hand-craftsmanship.

Once formed, pieces are allowed to dry slowly to prevent cracking, then fired in a kiln at high temperature. The warm red exterior is left partially unglazed to show the natural terracotta clay colour, while the interior surfaces receive a clear food-safe glaze that makes them hygienic and easy to clean. The subtle botanical motif etched onto select pieces is done by hand before the first firing.
