Time waits for no man, but I rest by time’s side. By the river where women meet at dawn and leave before morning arrives.
I keep still, stealing a moments glance to catch the sunrise, for the day passes by without notice. Before my hands could leave the ladle, the moon takes its claim in the sky.
But ever so often, time freezes, and in between those seconds, I smell a better meal being cooked in my neighbour’s home, and I notice the cracks in my unattended roof.
As my heart begins to sink, I am knocked back into the present. By a warm embrace, I am reminded of my family, who mend my cracks with their presence and made me whole.
